Hôtel Hermitage Monte‑Carlo: a true connoisseurs’ retreat in Monaco

Hôtel Hermitage Monte‑Carlo: a true connoisseurs’ retreat in Monaco

Categoria: Hotelaria
Among the winding curves of the road leading to the Principality of Monaco immortalized by the legendary Monaco Grand Prix circuit, one of the most traditional and important events in Formula stands the Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the building is a historic monument that brings together art and culture. We have stayed in countless palace hotels around the world, but the Hermitage, located just a few steps from the iconic Place du Casino and the Hôtel de Paris, is a rare property known as the “Hôtel des connaisseurs,” or “Hotel of Connoisseurs.” With privileged views of the harbor, it is the favorite of an exclusive clientele that values discretion and appreciates art.

Hotel Hermitage

After being enchanted by the imposing Belle Époque façade, it took us some time to reach our suite because it is impossible not to stop and admire the works of art found everywhere. There are mosaics, sculptures, paintings, frescoes, and design objects that interact with the surroundings frequented by intellectuals, artists, nobles, and commoners alike. Upon reaching the winter garden, one’s gaze is naturally drawn to the steel-and-glass dome, a masterpiece designed by the atelier of Gustave Eiffel—the same behind the most famous tower in the world.

Works of art throughout the hotel

But the museum-like atmosphere of the corridors completely fades away when we enter our modern suite facing the Mediterranean. The space reveals an elegant, contemporary décor, where design harmoniously blends with the hotel’s historical heritage without losing its identity.

Pastel tones and delicate colors create a sense of lightness and timelessness, making it clear that the new here does not diminish the charm of the classic. The balcony overlooking the harbor is an invitation to never leave the room. Still, the hotel offers much more to be discovered, and vibrant Monaco awaits for us.

Our suite

There are currently 258 accommodations, gradually redesigned and modernized with intelligent automation systems and Green Globe certification, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability. This year, the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) the Monegasque group that controls this and other hotels, casinos, and restaurants concludes another stage of this careful renovation process and prepares for the next.

After all, luxury hospitality is a universe in constant evolution.

To advance modernization with renewed energy, the Hermitage now has a new general manager. Guillaume Ranvier, who took on the role in January 2026, arrived with the mission of writing a new chapter in the history of this Monegasque palace, looking toward the future without losing the Hermitage’s essence.

Guests at the Hermitage have access to the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo spa. Ah, the thermal baths deserve a chapter of their own in the experience here. It is a 6,600 m² wellness complex with a heated seawater pool, solarium, sauna, Turkish bath, beauty salon, fitness center with panoramic views, and thalassotherapy treatments. A tunnel connects the property to the Hôtel de Paris, where the thermal baths are located. So don’t be surprised if you see guests in bathrobes strolling through the corridors, passing by the Limun Bar or having lunch at the L’Hirondelle restaurant one of our favorites.

For lovers of gastronomy, the Hermitage is a discreet paradise. Leading the hotel’s culinary experiences is Chef Yannick Alléno, who has restaurants around the world and more than 15 Michelin stars. He is the mastermind behind the refined Abysse and the vibrant Pavyllon. At any hour of the day or night, you will find options for everyone.

The ritual begins at breakfast, with fresh products and impeccable œufs bénédictine, prepared to order.

Breakfast

Throughout the day, enjoy a gourmet break, an aperitif, or a drink at the Le Limún restaurant, and end the night with an experience at Abysse, two Michelin stars offering wonders of Japanese gastronomy with French touches or at Pavyllon, where modern cuisine comes to life before guests’ eyes.

Gastronomic experience at Pavyllon Restaurant

We were pleasantly surprised by the experience at Pavyllon, where the precise combination of ingredients and flavors was revealed in dishes with contemporary presentation, served in a more informal setting. Not surprisingly, reservations must be made well in advance. We enjoyed a special menu suggested by the chef, with a privileged view of Monaco.

As it was time to say goodbye to the Hermitage, we noticed a different kind of buzz in the reception area. While the concierge confirms our reservation at the Café de Paris brasserie, the agent completing our checkout informs us that the Principality is celebrating the grand ceremony of the Michelin Guide France & Monaco 2026 at the Grimaldi Forum. During this period, the Hermitage becomes the greatest constellation of renowned chefs in the world under one roof. A perfect reminder that this is, indeed, an address for true connaisseurs.
